Lighting Up the Game: MARC Expands with New Basketball Courts and Lights

Momentum is building at the Midcoast Athletic and Recreation Complex, and the next chapter is officially underway!

We're excited to share that construction of Phase 1, Tier 1C of the MARC project was approved by the Brunswick Town Council on Monday, April 6, at the regular Town Council Meeting. This next phase brings exciting new energy and expands the opportunities for recreation here in Brunswick. View a recap of the approval HERE.

What’s New in This Phase?

This phase focuses on enhancing and building upon the amenities already in place. With the pickleball courts, skatepark, and walking look completed and already serving the community, we’re now adding:

• Basketball Courts – A dedicated space for pickup games, skill-building, and community play.

• Sports Lighting – Designed to extend use into the evening hours, making it easier for residents to stay active after work, school, and throughout the shorter days of the year.

Built Through Community Support

An important part of this project is how it’s being funded. This project is being completed without the use of taxpayer dollars. Instead, it is made possible entirely through outside funding sources, including grants, recreation impact fees, private donors, and the support of local shareholders who are invested in bringing high-quality recreational opportunities to Brunswick.

This approach reflects the strong community backing behind the MARC and highlights what’s possible when public vision and support come together.

Timeline

Construction is set to begin shortly, with completion anticipated by the end of October. Once finished, these improvements will significantly expand the usability of the complex both day and night.

Continuing to Build Community

Each phase of the MARC project is about creating spaces that bring people together. With the playground, walking track, pickleball courts and skatepark already in use, and now basketball courts and lighting on the way, the MARC continues to evolve into a dynamic hub for recreation here in Brunswick.

We’re looking forward to seeing these additions come to life and to watching the community make the most of them.
